The first weekend competition of 2018 was held yesterday at Marden Residents Club in North Shields. A fantastic setup and well ran competition made for some great darts on the day. A total of 42 players entered on the day, so a double entry competition was played.
The youngster, Adam Hunt, who has just recently gained back his PDC Tour Card showed his class throughout the day, making the final in both halves.
On route to the first half final he whitewashed Keith Bisby and Billy Robson before defeating ‘The Badger’, Dave Prins 4-1 in the first half semi final with a 127 c/o to win.
In the second half Adam once again whitewashed everyone in his way including Geoff Murray and Steve Reed 3-0, before putting out Kenny Phillipson 4-0 to reach the second final.
Mark Stephenson was Adam’s first opponent in one final, who had also whitewashed his opponents on the way. He defeated Mark Hudson and Simon Malpass 3-0 before beating Bob Smith 4-0 in the semi final.
In the final, it was a great game, that went the distance in a best of 9 contest. It was nip and tuck throughout, with both breaking each others throws, but Hunt taking the final leg to win the match 5-4.
In the second final, Hunt was up against Dave Prins, who had recently won a local competition on New Years Day. On his way to the final Prins knocked out Bisby 3-0, before winning a last leg decider against A. Barrass to reach the semi final. Prins showed his class knocking out youngster Jordan Roof 4-2 in the semi finals.
The final saw Adam come out on top with a 5-1 win over Prins, and to win both halves to be crowned the first Marden Club Open Champion.
