The professional qualifiers for the PDC UK Open were concluded yesterday evening with 3 North-East lads making it through in Wigan to join Riley’s amateur qualifier, Simon Tate.
The stand out performances over the past two weekends came from Dave Prins, who put on some fine displays and beating big names to guarantee himself a seeded top 32 spot meaning he enters in the third round of the UK Open and straight into the money.
Prins kicked off his first weekend making the last 16 defeating 4 great players on the way including Wattimena, Klaasen and De Zwaan.
The second and third qualifier proved to be just as good making the last 32 and last 16 respectively.
Dave made a total of £4,000 over the 6 qualifying events which puts him into a seeded spot at 28th place and guaranteeing at least £1,750 from the third round.
Hollywood, Chris Dobey got off to a tricky start in the first weekend of qualifiers but made up for it in qualifier 5, where he beat three seasoned pros in Ryan Searle, Zoran Lerchbacher and Dirk Van Duijvenbode to make the last 16 before he was eventually defeated by world champion Rob Cross. With £1,500 on his rankings he will enter in the second round with one win off the money.
Durham youngster Adam Hunt made three board finals during the 6 qualifiers including a massive scalp over Gary Anderson to put him in a position to qualify. With ‘The Hunter’ sitting on £750 along with a number of players as the qualifying events concluded, there was a playoff to determine the final two spots for the major finals.
Adam held his nerve late on Sunday defeating Kevin Garcia 6-2 and former Lakeside World Finalist Jeff Smith, 6-4 to guarantee his spot in this years UK Open.
The UK Open Finals take place from 2nd-4th March in Butlins Minehead and will be live on ITV Sport.
