Relentless Rules Again

The Sky Lounge is now a permanent fixture in the North East Darting scene, boasting one of the best setups around fuelled with an even better atmosphere.

Saturday 4th December saw 64 participants go head-to-head using the new Darts Atlas software. The software involved tablet scoring, with real-time scores and bracket updates for spectators. This new bit of kit will be used in all North East Darts Promotions events moving forward.

On the day we saw a mix of old and new faces, as well as some fantastic performances. Angela Kirkwood came from 3-1 down in her opening game to defeat County Durham A player, Jack Kirtland, 4-3.

Jock Lyons rolled back the years defeating in-form youngster, Jack Male by 4 legs to 1, registering an impressive 80 avg in the process.

As we edged into the later stages, Consett thrower, Andrew Heppell defeated one of the favourites, David Gradwell in the last 32.

Adam Hunt and Ryan Joyce both moved comfortably into the last 16, both only dropping 1 leg in the two opening rounds.

Joyce started to turn the screw in the last 16 as he brushed aside another in-form player in Paul Nesbitt. Nesbitt battled back in the middle of the game registering a 14-darter, but ‘Relentless’ held strong and to see out the game 4-1.

Hunt went up against WDF Lakeside qualifier, Dave Prins in the tie of the quarters, which proved to be a cracker. Going all the way down to a decider and Prins leaving 36 for the match and ‘The Hunter’ took out 113 to seal the victory.

Both Hunt and Joyce moved comfortably into the final, beating their opponents 5-0 and 5-1, respectively.

The final saw the two PDC pros go head-to-head once again in a Sky Lounge Open Final. Hunt registered 4x 180s in 7 legs and their averages were near on identical, but Joyce proved clinical in the finishing department and ran away with the win, 5-2.

As always, thank you to the Sky Lounge for their hospitality.

Thanks to Paul Lawson, Ali Patton, Stephen Mallams and Michelle for their support in setup, organising and support.

See everyone in 2022 for the next North East Darts Promotions Event.
