Two North East players, AnnMarie Potts and Linda Ithurralde were crowned Welsh Open Ladies Pairs champions for 2017 on Friday!
The pair played a total of 8 games on the way to the final, taking out some big finishes and defeating some brilliant players along the way. In the last 128 and their first game AnnMarie narrowly missed out on a big 147 finish, however Linda did take out 115 and 150 to move into the next round winning 3-0.
They moved into the last 16 very comfortably, winning 3-0 in the last 64 and last 32 before despatching Louise Hepburn and Cody Hepburn 3-1 to book their place in the last 8. Another 3-1 win set up a semi final against young England International Beau Greaves and her partner, Alannah Waters.
This game was the tightest of the day, with it going all the way to a decider. AnnMarie and Linda edged out the opposition finishing on double one.
Moving into the final game of the day and one more win away from victory, they came up against the Ladies world champion Lisa Ashton and her partner, Danielle Ashton.
The North East pair went 2-0 down before battling back to 2-2 with AnnMarie taking out double ten to send it down to a deciding leg once again. Lisa and Danielle were sitting on a double when AnnMarie took out 80 in 3 darts to seal the win and be crowned Welsh Open Ladies Pairs Champions!
