Gary Anderson was victorious in Newcastle on Friday evening in Newcastle as he lifted the ‘Davey Dodds’ memorial trophy in what was the sixth annual staging of the Newcastle Masters – hosted by NE Sporting events.
As the former two-time World champion picked up the Davey Dodds memorial trophy on what was an emotional evening for everyone involved, the ‘Flying Scotsman’ provided his own heartfelt regards to the family of Davey Dodds as he donated the trophy to the Dodds family.
The gesture was very well received by the Dodds family and audience in attendance.
En route to winning the event, Anderson enjoyed a series of victories over Dave Prins (4-1), Allan Edwards (3-1) before enjoying a 3-1 victory over Ted Hankey in the Grand Final.
It was a fantastic event hosted by NE Sporting Events, and a great occassion for friends and family to raise a glass for Davey Dodds.
Chris Mason 4-0 Liam Dobey
‘Mace the Ace’ kicked off the evening in Newcastle with a fantastic 4-0 victory over Liam Dobey who’s coincidentally the cousin of PDC star Chris Dobey.
Mason averaged 96 in what was a fantastic display from the former World Championship Semi-Finalist.
QUARTER FINAL #1
Andy Lynn 4-1 Colin Lloyd
Andy Lynn received a wildcard for this event, and he showed why he was selected as he produced a superb display to see off the former World no.1 Colin ‘Jaws’ Lloyd in a 4-1 victory.
Ted Hankey 4-0 Dean Jones
‘The Count’ Ted Hankey got off to a fantastic start in Newcastle as he seen off the North-East hopeful Dean Jones in a very assuring 4-0 victory. The was plenty of comradery between the pair following the walk-ons, and it was Hankey who cruised into the Semi-Finals.
Gary Anderson 4-1 Dave Prins
The former two-time World Champion Gary Anderson was in sensational form in his opening match with ‘The Badger’ Dave Prins as he completed a 4-1 victory over Prins. The Scot showed his class as he eased into the Semi-Finals.
Allan Edwards 4-3 Chris Mason
This one could have arguably been one of matches of the evening in terms of drama and quality as Allan Edwards edged out Chris Mason in a fantastic battle. Mason couldn’t quite replicate his performance from his preliminary round win over Liam Dobey as Edwards moved into the Semi-Finals.
Ted Hankey 3-2 Andy Lynn
‘The Count’ produced a steady performance in this one, but credit to Andy Lynn who battled well. But, it was Hankey who moved into the Grand Final of the Newcastle Masters.
Gary Anderson 3-1 Allan Edwards
This was another exciting match in Newcastle, as Gary Anderson faced a tough opponent in Allan Edwards who’s a player who’s tasted a lot of success up in the North-East. Anderson showed his quality though as he coasted to a 3-1 victory as he set up a Final with Ted Hankey.
WALK ON GIRLS
A quick mention to the walk-on girls for this event – Katiee Elizabeth & Lauren Kearns. Walk-on girls have been under scrutiny over the past few months, but Katiee & Lauren shown that they’re very professional at what they do, and helped make the Newcastle Masters the success that it was.
THE GRAND FINAL
GARY ANDERSON 3-1 Ted Hankey
Gary Anderson lifts the Newcastle Masters 6 crown as he completed a 3-1 victory over Ted Hankey in what was a terrific final.
Gary, like I said earlier donated his trophy to the Dodds family in what was a phenomenal gesture from the ‘Flying Scotsman’.
